A full-day campus session on how modern software work actually runs — cloud platforms, AI-ready systems, security and compliance — and what that means for students entering engineering roles.

Led by Harsh Khanna, a senior technology executive with 20+ years in cloud, data and AI-ready platforms, alongside Group Captain Nikhil Verma (Retd.), M.Tech IIT Kanpur and experiential-learning trainer.

In-person · One day · Lecture + workshop · Ideal for engineering and CS students

A CoinsLive initiative helping students and early professionals gain professional clarity, learn from experienced professionals and build evidence of their capabilities.

The problem

Syntax still matters. How software is designed, shipped and governed has changed.

Students often leave college fluent in languages and frameworks, yet underprepared for how real engineering organisations work today:

  • Workloads run across cloud platforms, not a single lab machine
  • AI assists coding — and raises new questions about architecture, data and risk
  • Security, privacy and compliance are built into delivery, not bolted on later
  • Cost, performance and regulatory fit decide where systems run
  • Teams ship through DevSecOps practices, not solo assignments

Beyond Syntax connects classroom software skills to the platform, security and AI realities of modern engineering work.

Takeaways

What participants will walk away with

A clearer map of how software engineering practice is shifting — and what to practise before placements and first roles.

  1. 1

    How platforms shape engineering decisions

See why poly-cloud, Kubernetes and workload placement matter for cost, performance and compliance.

  2. 2

Where AI fits in real delivery

Understand how generative AI sits alongside enterprise cloud, data and AML-style controls — not as a toy demo.

  3. 3

Security and privacy as engineering habits

Connect GDPR, privacy, WAF and IAM ideas to DevSecOps ways of working students will meet on the job.

  4. 4

    Professional judgement under constraints

Practise thinking beyond code correctness: ownership, trade-offs and how teams deliver under real constraints.

Senior technology executive · Cloud, data & AI platforms

LinkedIn

Senior technology executive with 20+ years leading cloud, data, and AI-ready platforms across global financial institutions and hyperscaler-backed product organisations. He has executed data-centre exit programmes, built poly-cloud architectures on AWS, GCP and Azure, and placed workloads for cost, performance and regulatory fit.

Harsh specialises in Kubernetes, security, data management and compliance — including GDPR, privacy, WAF and IAM inside DevSecOps delivery. He is known for getting results on time and on cost while growing teams through embedded training.

He is currently connecting enterprise cloud AML practice with generative AI (Keras, Flutter, Llama) at organisation scale.

  • 20+ years technology leadership
  • Poly-cloud: AWS, GCP, Azure
  • Kubernetes, security, data & compliance
  • DevSecOps with GDPR / privacy / IAM
  • Cloud AML × generative AI at enterprise scale

Cloud compute, poly-cloud architecture, intelligent workload placement, Kubernetes, security, data management, compliance and enterprise generative AI.

Group Captain Nikhil Verma

Veteran, Indian Air Force

Group Captain Nikhil Verma is an Indian Air Force veteran with 32 years of distinguished service and extensive experience in leadership, training and organisational development.

He holds an M.Tech from IIT Kanpur and has received international certification in experiential learning from the International Institute of Professional Learning, Canada. He is also a certified outbound trainer.

His sessions combine activities, storytelling, structured reflection and practical application.

  • 32 years of Indian Air Force service
  • 16 years of training experience
  • 1,000+ training sessions
  • 6,000+ professionals trained
  • Participants from 11 countries

His core areas include leadership, team building, verbal and non-verbal communication, decision-making, creative problem-solving, time management and productivity.

Who should attend?

The workshop is suitable for:

  • Second-, third- and final-year engineering and computer science students
  • Students preparing for internships and software placements
  • BCA and related computing programmes
  • Student developers and campus tech club members
  • Faculty coordinators building industry-aligned sessions

Recommended group size: 60–100 students

The session can be tailored to the institution, programme year and intended learning outcomes.

For colleges

Your students’ conversion risk is not another motivational talk

Placement cells feel it when students clear written rounds but stumble on how modern engineering teams actually build, secure and ship systems. CoinsLive runs a structured one-day lecture and workshop with practitioners who have delivered cloud and AI-ready platforms at enterprise scale.

What colleges are losing now

  • Students who clear written rounds but fail GD / communication / ownership in interviews
  • Soft-skills gap that industry prioritises while the syllabus stays domain-heavy
  • Placement-cell reputation when employers signal “academics OK, workplace readiness weak”
  • Ops cost of ad-hoc motivational talks that leave no structured outcomes or feedback

What the college gains

  • Structured, experiential PD aligned to employer soft-skill demand (not another lecture)
  • Low operational burden — CoinsLive runs structure; college provides venue + coordinator
  • Tangible artefacts: feedback summary, photos/recap, follow-up resources for students
  • Pilot path (North Bengaluru) to try without facilitator fee

Workshop deliverables

  • Student participation and feedback summary
  • Workshop photographs and an edited event recap
  • Follow-up professional-development resources for students
  • Option for future workshops customised for the institution

The institution provides:

  • A classroom, seminar hall or auditorium
  • Projector, screen and microphone
  • One faculty coordinator
  • Two student volunteers
  • Local pickup and drop for the facilitators
  • Prior approval for photography and video recording, where applicable

Pilot collaboration

Selected colleges in North Bengaluru may be offered the initial workshop without a facilitator fee, subject to audience size, date, location and institutional fit.

The college would be responsible for local transportation and on-campus facilities.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is this only a lecture?

No. It is a one-day format that combines a lecture with workshop-style discussion and application — not a passive talk alone.

  • How many students can participate?

A group of 60–100 students is recommended. The format can be adjusted for smaller or larger groups.

  • What facilities are required?

A projector, microphone, whiteboard and seating suitable for a full-day session are preferred.

  • Who facilitates the session?

Harsh Khanna leads the technology and platform narrative. Group Captain Nikhil Verma (Retd.) co-facilitates with a focus on professional judgement, communication and how teams perform under real constraints.

  • Is there a workshop fee?

Pilot collaborations may be conducted without a facilitator fee for selected Bengaluru colleges. The institution would arrange local pickup and drop, venue and basic workshop facilities.

  • Can the workshop be customised?

Yes. Emphasis can be adapted for engineering, computer science or multidisciplinary computing cohorts.

  • Will students be photographed or recorded?

Only after the institution approves the content plan and participants provide appropriate consent.
